Questions to help you choose a birth photographer | Ezgi Yilmaz, Baby Photographer

I received my photography training from Nemi Miller in 2012. During the training, I realized that I was able to calm the babies. I'm so lucky that the parents see me as part of their family. Birth is the moment when a mother is most vulnerable. I am sure the last thing she wants to see is someone with a camera. The perceptions of a mother in the delivery room are very clear. I was trained in this environment for about 1 year to be invisible. Because the last thing I want is to disturb a woman about to give birth. We are there to capture some of what you miss… and what you’re probably very likely to forget! I have attended over 500 births. If you are about to choose a photographer for your birth, I suggest you consider the following elements.

1. Do you like the photographer's style?
When you are looking for your birth photographer, have a look through their portfolios. Choose a birth photographer whose style you just can’t get enough of.

2. Do they put you at ease?

You will most likely, at least be semi naked, surrounded by strangers. This is your most vulnerable time. If you’re going to add yet another person to the mix, make sure you feel completely comfortable with who they are! Find a photographer who you will feel relaxed around.

3. Do they have the relevant experience?

Someone who knows exactly what to do, where to stand, and how to capture that magic moment. If you are planning to give birth at hospital, find a photographer who has experience with hospital births. Hospitals have rules and procedures that photographers must abide too, so choose a photographer who has experience of this and knows the right people to talk too. Choose someone who has experienced home births too!

4. Will they be available?

A birth photographer should be available around your due date. See what is on-call.

5. How much will it cost?

Births can go for many more hours even days. When you purchase a birth photography service you purchase their lifestyle too.
